It’s less to do with the “brand” of a writer or the genre you choose to write in, and more about deciding how you want to be a part of the group. MobCraft Beer moved from Madison to Milwaukee this summer and we’ve gotten to know the gang over there. They are making some really amazing beers and they have a really nice tap room for people to come and hang out and enjoy this great selection of beers. The head brewer suggested doing a beer for Crimespree Magazine and we were thrilled. After a number of discussions with folks we know and the beer experts at MobCraft the flavoring we came up with was an imperial chocolate stout with cherry and it is called Cherry Moon. His original idea was more along the lines of a traditional author Q&A, with writers like Duane Swierzynski, Dennis Tafoya, and Sandra Ruttan. Thursday, January 22nd saw the Twin Cities area host their fourth Noir at the Bar event. For those not familiar, Noir at the Bar is an event that allows area crime/mystery authors to read their works in pub settings. There are now Noir at the Bar events happening fairly regularly on both coasts, as well as the St. Louis are. All it takes is a group of writers willing to shake off a fear of public speaking, and a local bar willing to share their space. The result? Well, that’s where the magic is.
