It’s a wrap: Noir at the Bar-Twin Cities

Thursday, January 23,  was the third Noir at the Bar: Twin Cities. To say it was a beer-filled, crime infused success would be an understatement. With an attendance of fifty crime/mystery fans hanging off their every word, Kristi Belcamino, Matthew Clemens, and Dan O’Shea wove their twisted tales of serial killers, captured DEA agents, and soldiers of fortune in Darfur. Dangerous Man Brewing Co. proved to be gracious hosts, offering to block off even more of their space when we quickly overran our agreed upon reserved tables. Reading from her upcoming debut from HarperCollins, BELESSED ARE THE DEAD, Belcamino kicked off the reading like a...

Noir at the Bar: Twin Cities

Noir at the Bar is kinda like…a poetry slam. Yeah, that’s it. But it’s poetry that doesn’t rhyme. And instead of poems about trees, people read short stories about crime. With guns. And knives. And fists. And sex. And swearing. Sometimes the crowd likes these stories. Sometimes they leave. Before the story is finished even. But that’s ok. The Minneapolis/St. Paul area has a fantastic book community. Why the hell (Darn it. There’s a swear.) they let me hang out with ‘em is beyond me. Noir at the Bar: Twin Cities

Last night the New Hope Cinema Grill hosted the second Noir at the Bar event ever held in the Twin Cities. After the wonderful reception the first event received from the crime fiction loving Minnesota crowd, a second event was less of a question of “if” and more of a question of “when.”   At the first event, it was announced that attendee Anthony Neil Smith’s novel HOGDOGGIN was set to be shot as a feature film directed by event host Paul von Stoetzel. His company Killing Joke Films has partnered with event sponsor Pounding Heart MultiMedia for the film. Of course last night’s NatB featured readings from a fine variety of published...

Noir at the Bar Minneapolis

Editor’s note: The term Noir at the Bar was actually coined by noted crime fiction blogger Peter Rozovsky. While Jedidah Ayres has worked hard to promote it, we wish to give credit where credit is due. Minneapolis bar Merlin’s Rest was home to a slightly different show last night than the neighborhood British pub usually is privy to. While the regular customer will come in for a pint of Guinness or a plate of Scotch eggs, what they got last night was a group of published and award winning mystery writers reading their short stories to a packed room of fans. Noir at the Bar is a term coined by St. Louis based author Jedidiah Ayres....
