THE TUNNEL Complete First Season

THE TUNNEL The Complete First Season PBS I’ve reached the point where any thing on PBS that has a mystery is going to be on my list of things to watch. Life threw me a couple hiccups so it took a little longer to get to this than I would have liked, but I sat down and did the whole thing in one marathon viewing. WOW. We open on a crime scene in the tunnel connecting France and England, a body is found perfectly centered on the border. The French have the case and a Brit copper shows up after they received a courtesy call. Things change from a little uncomfortable to weird when the body is being moved and falls in to two perfectly even...

INSPECTOR LEWIS Series 8

INSPECTOR LEWIS Series 8 PBS This is the last of the Inspector Lewis and while I’m sorry it’s ending it went out on a high note. This set has three stories so it’s a little shorter than I would like it made up for it with great writing and acting and does a wonderful job of wrapping up the whole series. Lewis is working as a consultant and is a bit worried he may be found redundant by the new captain. Hathaway is doing well and while he can work just fine without Lewis they definitely work better as a team. As with Inspector Morse, Lewis helps keep Hathaway focused and grounded and from spending too much time in his own head.     One For...

Endeavor Season 3 Reviewed

ENDEAVOR Season 3 PBS Just to get it off my chest I have a major problem with this show. I need more than just four stories. Yes, it’s six hours of viewing but I need more. Why do I need more? Because I really love this show. Inspector Morse was always interesting to me but sometime a bit dry. I like the continuation of the story through Inspector Lewis quite a bit. But there is something about Endeavor with Morse as detective constable working with DI Thursday that I just love. Watching him try and fit in with the system that seems outdated and counter intuitive to his intellect is a big part of the show and I think having seen where he...

GRANTCHESTER Season 2

GRANTCHESTER Complete Second Season PBS We loved the first season of Granchester and so we could not wait to sit down with this DVD set. Reverend Sidney Chambers (James Norton and Inspector Goerdie Keating (Robson Green) are such an unlikely but prefect team-up for solving mysteries. They complement each other so well in personality and action. Season two opens with 1954 Grantchester being a pretty happy place. Sidney and Geordie seem to be in good place and so it’s only natural that something would happen to throw a wrench into this. A case comes along that has ongoing consequences though out the season. A girl is found dead, she’s under...

Grantchester DVD Review

GRANTCHESTER Season 1 PBS Masterpiece Theater’s MYSTERY! Has over the years turned out an awful lot of wonderful programming. Grantchester is one of the latest and the first season is now out on DVD. Based on a series of books by James Runcie (which are great reading) this is a traditional mystery in the British tradition which means little or no violence shown and emphasis on characters. It’s 1953 and Sidney Chambers (James Norton) is a WWII vet who is now a vicar in a small town near Cambridge. He likes jazz and enjoys his work but when a parishioner comes to him with secrets about a death he can’t help but get involved. He ends up...
