Variety is reporting that Matthew McConaughey has signed on to play Mickey Haller in The Lincoln Lawler.

“Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense attorney who operates out of the
back seat of his Lincoln Town Car, traveling between the far-flung courthouses
of Los Angeles to defend clients of every kind. Bikers, con artists, drunk
drivers, drug dealers — they’re all on Mickey Haller’s client list. For him, the
law is rarely about guilt or innocence — it’s about negotiation and
manipulation. Sometimes it’s even about justice.”

Based on the Michael Connelly novel of the same name, LL sees Haller suddenly finds himself defending a high-profile client in a case that forces him to look at himself and how he lives his life.

I have never been shy about voicing my dislike of MM. It is not that he is an awful actor, it is that he has never delivered a particularly good film. When I see him on talk shows, his charisma comes through and he is great. In films, he seems wooden. His choice of roles has not helped.

Perhaps this will be the role that takes him to the next level.
