This one shocks me not.
Deadline is reporting that TNT has opted not to order a third season of MEMPHIS BEAT. MB stars Jason Lee as Dwight Hendricks, a smart Memphis cop whose love for his city helps him do his job. The show was often, in press releases, described as quirky and off-beat. The problem was that it was neither. Originally, Dwight was also an Elvis impersonator and lived with his mother. Those things both fell by the wayside in the developmental process and Dwight ended being a popular club singer of classic RnB and early rock n roll. The end result was a batch of boring characters and typical storylines.
You could see that they wanted to make it unusual, but did not seem to know how to do so. I like Jason Lee and had high hopes for MB, but it quickly became just another police show.
