An intriguing thriller in which every word contributes to a gripping page turner.

It’s been ten years since she murdered her best friend, Phoebe on a study abroad trip in Australia. And now there’s a reunion she doesn’t want to attend.

Haunted by the events of that fateful night in Sydney, Claire’s anxiety resurfaces when she receives a text message from a long time friend informing her that the body of her former best friend, Phoebe, has just been discovered. With the news fresh in her mind, she must struggle with the decision to attend the reunion, where she’ll face her past and confront the memories she’s tried so hard to bury.

The following day, Claire receives a call from the police, asking if she’ll be attending the reunion as they would use this opportunity to question them physically. Given the state of the body’s condition, an investigation needed to be carried out. Knowing she can’t refuse without looking suspicious, Claire decides to go, with plans to act all natural without looking like a suspect.

Getting to Australia, it seems like others are equally as uncomfortable as her. When the details of Phoebe’s death are revealed, Claire’s memories don’t align with the evidence. Someone else hated Phoebe. Turns out she’s not the only one with secrets.

I love how the author makes us (the readers) relive both moments of the trips instead of using flashbacks. Although it got to the point where the story became very slow, the next dialogue just makes you continue to see what happens next.

The book explores themes of romance, betrayal, suspense and mystery with a thrilling narrative that jumps between past and present. As the story unfolds, we are introduced to a cast of complex characters whose secrets are slowly revealed, pulling us deeper into their lives while slowly unraveling the mysteries.
