A Killer Getaway by Sienna Sharpe
Sourcebooks Landmark/August 12, 2025
If Dexter was a hot chick resembling a Barbie doll, he might be Lily Lennox.
In Sienna Sharpe’s A Killer Getaway, despite operating a successful catering business in Ohio, for five years running Lily Lennox disappears to an exclusive resort to act as a lowly lifeguard outfitted in scandalously high-cut swimwear. At twenty-nine, Lily’s pushing the maximum age of employment, as the Rivian has a certain image to maintain; but she’s on brand for now.
Being on brand has helped Lily slip under the radar when a death occurs each year and coincides with her engagement with the Rivian. Only the most toxic of people die–a sweet starlet’s odious manager who keeps her under his thumb while pressuring her to lose weight via dangerous means, a psychopathic fitness trainer. People whose removal from the world does more good than harm. After, Lily reasons, it’s up to those affected by these deaths to take it from there in flourishing without their influence.
This year, Lily’s summer ritual faces the complication of Daniel. Ostensibly there to cover the Rivian for a health magazine, it’s not long before Lily realizes he has other intentions. And it takes even less time for Lily to realize her attraction to this same man who could expose her as the world’s most altruistic serial killer.
Lily came to the Rivian for a purpose, and she’s committed to seeing it through. Her stint with the Rivian began after the death of her girlfriend, Jessica, whose fragile sense of self-worth took a nosedive after the couple’s vacation there. For Jessica–who is alluded to as dead by suicide–Lily’s tradition must continue. But with Daniel on her tail and self-reflection rearing its ugly head, this might be the end of the line for Lily’s unique hobby.
The Killer Getaway by Sienna Sharpe is a great beach read, as assisted by a fast pace and setting in a Caribbean resort (fun fact: the original title was Beach Bodies). Lily might look like Barbie, but she’s far from one-dimensional, with Sharpe expertly crafting not only her character, but also her motivations in executing (pun intended) her yearly ritual. The Killer Getaway is a little Emily Henry humor, a little Dexter, and a whole lot of fun.
