In the late 70’s and early 80’s Harrison Ford played the two roles that defined for me what it meant to be cool. Those were, of course, Han Solo and Indiana Jones. Both were the perfectly crafted reluctant heroes: guys who never asked to face mortal peril, but who always managed to come up, on the fly, with the perfect plan (and the perfect wisecrack) when mortal peril found them.
I like to put at least a little Han or Indy in all my protagonists.
