Deadline is reporting that Warner has acquired the film rights to Dennis Lehane’s next novel.
LIVE BY NIGHT, which will be released this fall, is the second in the trilogy that started with THE GIVEN DAY. The three books look at Boston and the police department over the course of the 20th century. LIVE BY NIGHT will focus on prohibition era Boston.
Leonardo DiCaprio is expected to star, with his Appian Way Productions producing. DiCaprio previously starred in the film version of Lehane’s SHUTTER ISLAND.
As far as I know, Columbia still has the rights to THE GIVEN DAY. Sam Raimi was attached to direct, but that was a few years ago.
Lehane has had a fair amount of success in Hollywood. Not only has he had three of his novels make to the silver screen, all of them were solid films with three Oscar wins and another five nominations.
